Censorship??

Censorship is one of the key topics in the world. In the book, "The Internet and Society: a reference handbook" it lists some cases about censorship in China. The Government creates cartoon figure, and make them appear to users' screen to stop people reading on the dangours website. The book discloses that "some of the censorship is for protecting citizen's safety, however some sensitive political words are blocked as well."
Yet, while censorship is being dicussed in the Western society, the Chinese Government has put it into practice. The ideologies from two cultures conflict. People doubt the policy of the Government. However, in my opinion, whether to use censorship and define the importance of censorship in a country should be considered with the situation of this perticular country.
The population in China is more than 12 hundred millions. The Government has to be much stronger than the other countries which have smaller populations. Thus, censorship relates to the population.

It is very difficult to define the policy clearly. The censorship does necessary in China. Otherwise, the country will be difficult to be led. However, according to the history of People's Republic of China, censorship should be controlled in a bound. During the 10 years Culture Revolution, people has been put away from the ancient China which is wealthy in knowledge and culture; people has been banded and keep away from connacting with the outside. The generation during that time is not familiar with the real Chinese culture at all. In this aspect, it is true that "the censorship destroyed our culture".

There are always advantages and disadvantages exist in one incident. The important thing is how to control it in order to use it efficiently.

Ethics and filteration about Citizen Journalism

It is worth to say that journalism has their power in hand to direct the public. The film "Good Night and Good Luck" obviously presents the power of journalists by showing the story of Morrow, a journalist who discloses the evil doing of a politician to the public and thus pushes him out of the stage of polity.
As the public takes a part in journalism, everyone has chances to report incidents by using mobile phones, cameras and makes sound tracts. The newspapers widely open their doors to accept and encourage people to be active in this area as well.
It is true that by accepting the power of the public makes the news reporting be more efficient, wider and interesting; however, will the news reporting becomes unilateral and extreme? People may remember the incidents of election in Iran. The Daily Telegraph published the pictures of the shooting and death videocut from citizen in Iran. Half of the page were used to report passer's emotional words in the contemparary time. The music student's death shocked the public. "Neda", as the Daily Telegraph says, becomes a slogan.
Yes it is true that war and conflicts are unavoidable shame in human history. However, journalists hold the power to direct the public to see the incident more clearly. Therefore, I believe that the truth behind the death is more important to know rather than the emotional scenes beside the death. This is the efficient way of reduce the conflict.
The citizen journalists in this case study provide the video and emotional image which is just a piece of ice of the berg.
Let's quote some words of Mark Twain, "Necessarily we are all fond of murders, scandals, swindles, robberies, explosions, collisions, and all such things, when we know the people, and when they are neighbors and friends, but when they are strangers we do not get any great pleasure out of them, as a rule. Now the trouble with an American paper is that it has no discrimination; it rakes the whole earth for blood and garbage, and the result is that you are daily overfed and suffer a surfeit "
Focusing on the truth rather than emotions is the efficient way to figure out the complicate situations. Therefore, like the film "Good Night and Good Luck", the journalists used their power well to end a cabal, jounalism and citizen journalism should value the power and use it to direct the public to the right way. It is not what to write, but why and how to write.

Overview of citizen journalism...

Citizen journalism is a part of people from the public, who is active in discussing and reporting issues in the society.
When the England subway bombs exploded, the BBC news reported this incident not only by collecting the news from professional journalists, but from the public as well. Therefore, the reporting could be more believable and comprehensive.
The advantages of Citizen Journalism can be seen clearly from this event. The groups of people from the public helps news reporting to be more perfect and the newest, while they takes a part in reporting which the public has rarely done before.
As I see that in China, some of the local newspapers have already welcomed residents to report news happened around them. Thus, the newspaper could vary content.
Although the news which reported from the public may include mistake or grandiloquence, overall, it is good to see that the public cooperates with the professional news area.
